Getting Around Downtown Kinston...

4-H Kids Fest

10:00am - 4:00pm • Location - To Be Announced • Fee for entry

Lenoir County 4-H Kids Fest will feature a hands-on experience with agriculture. Youth will explore the 4-H Field of Fun and will be able to pick and dig up produce on their walk through our farm life simulation. After gathering the produce, they will “sell” their corn, carrots, and other commodities at the market for “money” that they can spend at the local 4-H store! Our store will feature many exciting items like cups, cozies, visors, sunglasses, and ice cream! This is an exciting and educational event that youth are sure to love! We will, also, have face painting, crafts and other activities available! Come get your wristband and explore agriculture! We look forward to seeing you there!

Showmanship Competition

Don't miss this competition…these cook teams go all out to really "put on the Hog" as they compete for the showmanship awards in this competition. Past teams have entertained festival attendees with all kinds of themes…from singing cowboys to gambling pigs…you won't believe that pig cookin' can be so much fun! A preliminary competition to the "Super Bowl of Swine" the Hog Happenin' will host more than 80 award-winning barbecue cookers. Sanctioned by the North Carolina Pork Council, the Hog Happenin' cookoff is one of the most prestigious barbecue competitions in the state.

Bicycle Fitness Ride for Scholarship

Location: Farmers Market Area

Fitness Ride BrochureChoose between 10 miles and 23 miles as a fitness activity for scholarship. The event begins at the Farmers Market Area and continues through sections of the city. Bicycle helmets are required for riders under the age of 16 and recommended for riders 16 and over.

 


PLEASE NOTE: Due to safety and logistics issues, the Metric Century Ride option will not be offered this year. We will continue planning to offer the Metric Century Ride in 2016!


Proceeds from the event will assist in funding scholarships for high school students through the "Fonnie B. Murrill and Ruth M. Jones Scholarship Foundation." Special awards will be presented to the oldest, youngest participants and the participant who has traveled the farthest distance for the event. Prizes will be awarded by lottery to three riders for each route. All awardees must complete the 9.5 or 22.5 mile rides.

Registration is located to the left of the Farmer's Market, beginning at 7:30 am. All riders are to be lined up on West Caswell and Herritage Streets by 8:20 am for final pre-ride information.

From new potatoes and mixed greens to herbs and spices, sauces, and sinfully delicious baked goods you will find everything that you need for that southern Sunday Dinner right here at the Festival Farmer's Market. Area growers sell an abundance of fruits, vegetables and other locally produced items from farm to table!

Heritage BBQ Pit

Stop in for a visit at the Heritage BBQ Pit as pitmaster Samuel Jones cooks up a farm raised, whole hog the good ole fashion way! Cooked for hours in an oakwood burning open pit just as his ancestor’s have been cooking them for over 150 years, this hog will become the featured dish to be “sopped” in mouth-watering bbq sauces competing in the Sauce Boss Competition Saturday.

Wine Garden

Consider joining us as we celebrate the vast growing wine industry in North Carolina. Again this year the BBQ Festival is offering wine tasting in our Wine Garden where wineries will have samples available by the glass and the bottle. Parking is available throughout other areas of downtown Kinston at several public parking lots that will be designated with Public Parking signs. A Mother Earth shuttle bus will make continuous loops to transport you to the festival grounds.
