Consider joining us as we celebrate the vast growing wine industry in North Carolina. Again this year the BBQ Festival is offering wine tasting in our Wine Garden where wineries will have samples available by the glass and the bottle. Winery tastings will be offered Friday night and Saturday during festival hours. The Wine Garden will be located in a quaint wine vineyard setting that will provide for relaxation and the opportunity to sample these fine wines. You will experience some of the best wines that North Carolina has to offer.

8th Annual Chamber Burger and Brew Bash

Art Fest

Come on down to Herritage Landing and release the ARTist within, paint a predesigned canvas depicting the festival and downtown scenes. The completed works of art will be on display in weeks after the festival in downtown Kinston. ALL ages are welcomed to participate.

Get on those "shaggin" shoes and get ready to party, because Steve Hardy and his Original Beach Party will be the Master of Ceremonies on both Friday night and all day on Saturday. Each Sunday night from 5 to 10 p.m. on WNCT FM 107.9, Steve Hardy's Original Beach Party goes out over the airwaves. He's won many awards over the years, from several DJ of the year awards and the coveted Cammy Award for Lifetime Achievement, to being elected to the Beach Music Hall of Fame.

Performing since 1991, The Holiday Band plays around 200 dates each year from New York to Florida. The band has been honored with awards in the Carolinas twice as group of the year, 3 times for album of the year, song of the year and many more awards. With one of the most stable lineups in the business The Holiday Band has 4 of its 6 members with more than 15 years with the group. Several members play multiple instruments including saxophone, keyboards, trombone, guitar, bass, drums, and flute. Adding to that, the band has four lead vocalists, giving the group a very diverse sound.

The Holiday Band has performed in notable venues including The Lincoln Center in New York City, The House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, The Alabama Theater in North Myrtle Beach, Mardi Gras in Mobile, Alabama and on Carnival and Royal Caribbean Cruise ships.

Embark upon a "spirited adventure as your guide reveals stories of Civil War soldiers held eternally captive by duty, roaming where they once experienced the horrors of battle. Reservations in advance recommended. $6.00 per person.

Showmanship Competition

Don't miss this competition…these cook teams go all out to really "put on the Hog" as they compete for the showmanship awards in this competition. Past teams have entertained festival attendees with all kinds of themes…from singing cowboys to gambling pigs…you won't believe that pig cookin' can be so much fun! A preliminary competition to the "Super Bowl of Swine" the Hog Happenin' will host more than 80 award-winning barbecue cookers. Sanctioned by the North Carolina Pork Council, the Hog Happenin' cookoff is one of the most prestigious barbecue competitions in the state.

Bicycle Fitness Ride for Scholarship

7:30 am Registration

Fitness Ride BrochureChoose between a 9.5 mile or 22.5 mile ride through Kinston, NC as a fitness activity for scholarship. The event begins at the Farmers Market Area and continues through sections of the city. Bicycle helmets are required for riders under the age of 16 and recommended for riders 16 and over. Proceeds from the event will assist in funding scholarships for high school students through the "Fonnie B. Murrill and Ruth M. Jones Scholarship Foundation." Special awards will be presented to the oldest, youngest participants and the participant who has traveled the farthest distance for the event. Prizes will be awarded by lottery to three riders for each route. All awardees must complete the 9.5 or 22.5 mile rides. Registration is located to the left of the Farmer's Market, beginning at 7:30 am. All riders are to be lined up on West Caswell and Herritage Streets by 8:25 am for final pre-ride information.

Open Car Truck Show

History comes rolling in as more than 100 Classic Cars and Trucks roll in to the festival for the Sale Auto Mall 4th Annual Open Car Show. Hosted by Carolina Classic Cruisers and the BBQ Festival on the Neuse, the show is a rolling history lesson for all to experience! Proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House.

The Nature Center/Planetarium/Big Daddy Train

The Kinston/Lenoir County Parks & Recreation Department will be offering free trolley rides from the Festival On The Neuse to the Neuseway Nature Park and Planetarium. The trolley will run from 10:00am - 3:00 pm every half hour. Admission is free to visit the Nature Center and the Planetarium.

Heritage BBQ Pit

Stop in for a visit at the Heritage BBQ Pit as pitmaster Samuel Jones cooks up a farm raised, whole hog the good ole fashion way! Cooked for hours in an oakwood burning open pit just as his ancestor’s have been cooking them for over 150 years, this hog will become the featured dish to be “sopped” in mouth-watering bbq sauces competing in the Sauce Boss Competition Saturday.

A Mad Affair formed around a campfire in the spring of 2011. Inspired by nature, the Chapel Hill trio play as if they never left the birdsong & trees. The radiant voice of Valerie Wood cascades over the nuanced cadences of Garth Robertson's vibrant guitar and the deep, resonant groove of double bassist, Eric Smith. Sauce Boss CompetitionTake home "Sauce Boss" bragging rights as Our State magazine sponsors the 2nd Annual Sauce Boss Competition during the BBQ Festival on the Neuse! A distinguished panel of judges will choose the award winning sauce! Festival attendees have an opportunity to sample the sauces and vote for the "people's choice" award by purchasing a $5 wristband. Sauces will be served with BBQ cooked by pitmaster Samuel Jones! The award sponsor, the Jones Family of the Skylight Inn has been cooking great BBQ the same way over wood for more than 150 years! Enter your killer sauce for only a $20 entry fee!

1st Annual Southern Sides Competition

Join Chef Vivian Howard as the Festival hosts the 1st Annual Southern Sides Competition. In its inaugural year, watch as team compete in two categories, hushpuppies and brunswick stew. Purchase tickets to taste the entries and vote for your favorite.

4-H Rabbit and Poultry Show

The show is open to any youth ages 19 and under.

4-H Donkey Drop Bingo

3:00pm • Location - Mitchell Street

Festival on the Neuse participants will have the opportunity to participate in a 50/50 Cash Award Game called 4-H Donkey Drop Bingo. Tickets will cost $5.00 allowing you to rent a small piece of property at the festival for a few hours hoping that when nature calls the donkey will deposit her droppings upon your rented property. If that happens you will receive half of the profits obtained by ticket sales. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Center on Hwy 11 South (252-527-2191). Come out to the Festival of the Neuse and meet "Snickerdoodle" the 4-H donkey in person and buy your tickets on Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday morning as well.
